Rethinking the Command to "Remember the Sabbath"

Rethinking the Command to "Remember the Sabbath"

Let’s start with a simple, honest question:

Is what you’re currently doing… fulfilling the commandment?

I don’t mean that as a challenge—but as an invitation.

An invitation to pause, to reconsider, to ask:

“Am I walking in obedience to what He really meant when He said, ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy’?”(Exodus 20:8)

🕊️ This Isn’t About Saturday vs. Sunday

That debate has raged for years. And while the day does matter biblically, this

conversation goes deeper than a calendar.

It’s about the heart behind the command.

Because we’ve been taught to worship whenever we want, to sing songs, go to

church, maybe hear a good sermon—

But is that the same as what God intended when He gave the command?

Or is it possible we’ve redefined obedience to match our convenience?

What if He meant more than day? More than what day you are choosing to

worship Him.

🔍 Let’s Look at What He Actually Said

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”(Exodus 20:8)

The Hebrew word for “remember” isn’t passive.

It’s active.

It means to mark, to guard, to set apart something as sacred.

And “holy” doesn’t mean spiritual.

It means set apart. Different. Untouchable by common use.

The Sabbath isn’t just a day to go to church.

It’s a sanctuary in time.

A divine appointment that God set into creation—not just into Israel’s law, but

into the very rhythm of the universe.

🛐 Church Attendance ≠ Covenant Obedience

Let’s get real:

A weekly church service doesn’t equal remembering the Sabbath.

Singing a few worship songs doesn’t equal resting from your work.

Hearing a good word doesn’t replace setting the day apart as holy unto Him.

This isn’t a critique of your heart—it’s a challenge to reexamine the pattern.

The truth is, many of us grew up doing church on Sunday with sincerity.

We genuinely believed it was honoring to God.

And He met us in that place.

But when He begins to open your eyes…

When you start to read Scripture for what it actually says…

When the Spirit begins nudging your heart to come back to the ancient path…

You can’t unsee it.

✨ What If You Said Yes?

What if you said yes to more than a service?

What if you stepped into a day that He declared blessed, sanctified, and holy

from the beginning of time?

What if you discovered that resting is just as spiritual as working for the

Kingdom?

What if obedience isn’t legalism……but actually the fruit of intimacy?

🫶 You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

Here’s the good news:

You don’t have to have the perfect Shabbat table.

You don’t need to know all the Hebrew prayers.

You don’t have to leave your community overnight.

You just have to start with a yes.

A yes to honoring His Word, not just with your beliefs—but with your time.

A yes to trusting that He knew what you needed before you even asked.

A yes to setting aside your way……to make room for His.

💬 Let’s Reflect Together

If you’ve been feeling that tug—

If Shabbat keeps coming up in conversations, sermons, or your late-night scrolls-

If you’ve quietly wondered, “Could this be for me too?”…

I’d love to invite you to pause and ask yourself:

Is what I’m doing right now fulfilling what He meant when He said: “Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy”?

Because maybe the better question isn’t:

What day do you worship?

…but rather:

Are you walking in what He commanded?

And if the answer is not yet

That’s okay.

He’s still inviting.

And He always honors a humble yes.

Shabbat Shalom, friend.

Whenever you’re ready, there’s a seat at the Table.
